Welcome to the official website of The Wellington Container House, a holiday home in Wellington, New Zealand, suitable for up to 8 guests.
If you're looking for a completely unique place to stay, The Wellington Container House is one of Wellington's most famous landmark buildings and has just been re-imagined as a holiday home.
This unique holiday home is a Wellington landmark and was built by industrial designer Ross Stevens, and all three levels are homely and offer the modern comforts of a contemporary house with many more unique and quirky features conventional houses don't offer. Two large outdoor areas face towards a rugged leafy Greywacke rock face as well as your own private waterfall - a great place to entertain friends and have dinner and drinks. Superb indoor-outdoor flow from the lounge and kitchen ensure a relaxed living space with dining tables outside as well as inside in case the weather turns. The property lights up at night, with many unique lighting features. On the 1st floor landing there is a 2-person Vortex hydrotherapy spa pool as well as a couple of bean bags for relaxing with a glass of wine. In total there are 3 bedrooms - "The Penthouse" master bedroom (which also has a Nanoleaf lighting feature and its own private and sunny balcony), "The Dominion" and "Mr Fox" bedrooms - and all come with king beds. The sofa in the cinema room can be made up into 2 single beds so that the property can accommodate up to 8 guests in total. This is perfect if you have little ones (who especially like camping out in the Penthouse Cinema), but do note that it may not be suitable for 8 single adults unless you don't mind sharing a bed. We also must stress that this is a container home, so will only be suitable for those who want to stay in a property that is a little bit different and exciting than conventional homes. At the other end of the top floor container, there is our very own "Penthouse Cinema" featuring a 100" HD projector screen - Sky HD with Sky Sports, Xbox One for games as well as a Bluray player (games and DVDs are also provided). We also have a selection of board games as well as some outdoor games (rugby ball, football, cricket). For the bathrooms you’ll find a family bathroom with a shower, a downstairs toilet and separate macrocarpa bathhouse. In the large garage underneath the building, there is an 8ft pool/billiards table (the garage is not heated so may only be suitable for most in warmer climes!).
This holiday home or "bach" has been featured in design publications from all over the world, including Repurposed, Urbis, Taschen, Inhabit, Space Craft, 100 Contemporary Houses, Container Architecture, and more...
